The IWS receives consultative status with the UN

The Internationaler Wirtschaftssenat e. V. has been accredited as a non-governmental organisation with consultative status within the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations since August 2021. The consulta-tive status according to Art. 71 of the UN Charter gives NGOs the option to participate in the sessions of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) as well as to actively shape them. This gives the IWS the opportunity to participate in the UN sessions and to represent its own positions, the positions of German SMEs, with written submissions.

With this groundbreaking step, the IWS expands the mouthpiece for its members to the international stage: values, viewpoints and positions are consequently given a stronger voice than ever before, also worldwide, which can make economic reason heard. Peter Nussbaum, IWS CEO: “The Internationaler Wirtschaftssenat e. V. is firmly convinced: The world organisation UN is the central pivot. A flourishing economy that brings prosperity to the people is one of the most important guarantors of peace in the world. Joint solutions are better than national go-it-alones. Germany in particular, a country that is more economically, politically and visionarily networked than almost any other, is open to the world and can therefore benefit all the more from a just but also cooperative world order. I am extremely pleased that the Internationaler Wirtschaftssenat e. V. will hence-forth be able to contribute the strong expertise from its own ranks internationally.” IWS Senators can apply as delegates to attend UN sessions in New York, Geneva and Vienna. In this way, the IWS opens up one of the highest-quality global contact networks for economic and social issues to its members.
